I got the following mail to birding.hu&s admin address. Anyone willing to contact please let me know. - UB

Hello,

Sorry to write in English. I an an Australian birder living in England. I am coming with friends for a holiday in Budapest 1-11th September and am keep to get out with the field-glasses!

I hope it is not too much to ask, but could you recommend any good spots close to the city?

Are there any local birders who would be interested to meet? It is always good to go out with others.

Best,

Shaun Kenaelly.

Hi all,

The number of migrant Pallid harriers increased since the beginning of 2000 in Western Europe.
I&m currently conducted a preliminary work on this species based on the variation of flight-feathers patterns in order to identify individuals and to track them in their post-fledged movements.
For this purpose, I need the available pictures of juveniles in flight like this one:
http://birding.hu/inc/faj.php?id=en-220252&TB_iframe=true&width=1200&height=792
For example, this picture well exhibits the pattern of the flight-feathers and it is sometimes possible to match it with other pictures taken elsewhere.
If you have, you can send to me your pictures of postnuptial migrant juveniles, rather original pictures for the quality (of course, I&ll not publish any picture without written authorization of his owner), at the following address:
reglade (at) hotmail (dot) fr

Thank you by advance for your help.

Birders,
I will be living in Budapest (District VI) from the middle of August into December. Can you recommend places near Budapest and accessible via train or bus where I might see Hoopoes and Bee-eaters before they go south? And are there other good spots that are also accessible by train or bus that I should try to see for day trips?

Thank you!

Hi Gerry, You would try a lot of good birding sites in this birding.hu databank. But I recommend you in particular the Naplás-tó (lake) in April.

Hi János,

thanks for your advice. I visited Tisza-tó in 2006, too. It really is a nice place to paddle and see birds. The point is, that one can do a kind of round-trip by canoe from Budapest to Budapest via Duná, Sió, Balaton, Zala, Rabá and Duná. That's what I wanted to do in 2006, but I had to skip Kis-Balaton and Zala.

I want to paddle from Balaton to Zala through Kis-Balaton, guided by a ranger. The ranger, that spotted me in 2006, drove a motor boat loaded with tourists. So they do tours there. But that's all I know...
